A celebration of Italian food tradition, Polpette Sauce is ground meatballs combined with rich tomato sauce over expertly cooked pasta. Polpette, or Italian meatballs, have a fascinating history that spans centuries and continents. While Meatballs may have originated in Persia as kofta, they later came to become part of standard Italian cuisine. Polpetta is derived directly from the Latin term pulpa, or boneless meat, and the food itself evolved into various regional fare in Italy.

In Southern Italy, where this recipe finds its roots, polpette were traditionally prepared both as a standalone and paired with pasta. When Italian immigrants brought their culinary traditions to America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they adapted their recipes to fit the ingredients available in their new home.
